Gites de La Richardière

A blog from our self-catering cottages and holidays in central France.

All about us……..

Gites de La Richardière: Self-Catering Gites in the Loire Valley, France

Gites Le Martinet and L’Hirondelle at La Richardière.

Gites de La Richardière is a collection of three Self-Catering Gite Cottages in Central France, in the region to the south of Tours, in the historic Loire valley. The cottages surround a central courtyard and were once a working farm. Now they provide comfortable cottage accommodation:

  • 1 Cottage with 2 bedrooms for 4 people
  • 1 cottage with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom for 5 people
  • 1 cottage with 1 bedroom for 2/3 people
  • or rent the whole property as a group!
  • There is a heated swimming pool, gardens and games lawns (Badminton, Table tennis, Boule, and swing ball) and…..
  • many things for people to do in the area and many great family activities.

The famous Loire Chateaux are within easy reach. Great castles with histories which intertwine with our own. Many have impressive gardens and grounds and during the summer months there are often special displays and exhibitions. The Chateau at Chenonceau can even be visited on the river by canoes and kayaks which can be hired locally.

The Chateau at Amboise was owned and built by Francois 1st of France and just down the road he made a retirement home for Leonardo Da Vinci. A fascinating place to see realisations of Leonardo’s inventions, such as the parachute, helicopter and the tank!

For those who like more physical activity there are well-made tree/rope adventure courses like the one at Clic’Lac; many cycling and walking routes in the area and places to hire canoes can be found on most of the major rivers in the area.

Pandas in the Chinese section of Zoo Parc Beauval

Wildlife is all around us here at La Richardière, so bird watching is a definite possibility. For those who like to see animals we have two great places nearby. Haute Touche is just 10 minutes away. Here you can drive cycle and walk through the animal enclosures. The Zoo Parc Beauval is a bit further away. It is proud to have its own collection of Chinese animals, including two Giant Pandas who have just given birth to a baby Panda. #MiniYuanZi.
