Gites de La Richardière

A blog from our self-catering cottages and holidays in central France.

Family Activities in the Indre-et-Loire (1) .

Activities and things to do near to Gites de La Richardière.

There are many activities which can be accessed close to our Gites at La Richardière. Here are just a few examples. In our Gites we provide a comprehensive package of leaflets and information sheets about the activities in this area.

Clic-Lac is a new high ropes and adventure course which has opened this year just North of La Richardière. It is set in a beautifully calm wooded area next to a lake near to the town of Chemillé-Sur-Indrois.

We were fascinated to see the special safety equipment used by all visitors which seemed to us to be state of the art and would eradicate climber errors when they are in the trees.

The routes are graded from very simple to most challenging including a skateboard and snow sledge route through the trees – not to mention the mountain bike route!

Careful instruction is given to all participants. A great day out for all the family and particularly for those restless teenagers who have had enough time by the pool!

From the Door-Step Activities:
Cycling Is popular on the quiet roads around La Richardière. There are many routes marked with Cycle Route markers and many routes off the beaten track.

Villages are generally about 10 km apart and so stopping for breaks and refreshments is highly possible.
At La Richardière we have Adult and child bikes available for guests to borrow. We do not provide helmets or other safety equipment.

Bird-Watching is a popular activity here as there is a wealth of bird-life in the countryside surrounding La Richardière. We often see Buzzards, Hen Harriers, Sparrow Hawks, Little Owls and Kestrels. Staying at La Richardière, guests are also just 20 minutes from the Brenne National Park with its 1,000 lakes and purpose built hides. The range of bird-life is extensive and seasonal including many migrating species.

Walking from La Richardière gives access to several good routes of varying lengths. We don’t have challenging hills, but we have paths and trails through fields and woodlands. Short walks and longer walks are possible with many other walks in the area are accessible after a short drive.

The local Tourist Office in Le Grand Pressigny has leaflets which describe local walks with accompanying information about the local environment and the local communities.

Canoeing takes place on the local rivers La Creuse, Cher and the Loire. Canoeing centres in La Roche Posay, Descartes and Tours.

Pottery Experiences are available in the Pottery close to the village of Ferriere-Larçon.

Riding at the Equitation centre in Etableau can be arranged and there are interesting pony trekking routes from the centre. Trips from 1 hour to a whole day are available.

Wine Tasting evenings can be organised here at La Richardière bringing local wines and local expertise together for the benefit of our guests. Further afield there are many wine producers who open their wine caves to visitors and offer wines for sale.

Spa Source at La Roche Posay
